This month the kind folks at Sovereign have nominated the Dyslexia Foundation as one of their six chosen children’s charities for the Sovereign Sunshine sponsorship programme.

The month of June is devoted to children’s learning disorders, which is fantastic timing as it also coincides with Dyslexia Awareness Week!

There’s a prize of between $10,000 and $15,000 up for grabs and the rules are simple – the charity with the most votes wins. So, get voting and show your support for the Dyslexia Foundation!

WHAT WOULD WE DO WITH THE MONEY?

If we are lucky enough to win – and remember that depends on you! - we will add the Sovereign Sunshine prize money to our existing Cookie Munchers Charitable Trust prize pool that forms part of Dyslexia Awareness Week. Thanks to the generosity of other organisations such as Rotary, Altrusa, and The Warehouse the prize pool is currently sitting at $20,000, which gives schools that participate in Dyslexia Awareness Week 10 chances to win $2000 towards any dyslexia resource purchase or initiative. If we win the Sovereign prize we’d almost double the odds!

The Sovereign Sunshine donation allocated this way supports our campaign for specific Government funding for dyslexia-specific teacher professional development; classroom assessment tools; and interventions and strategies to address dyslexia early – something that young dyslexic New Zealanders deserve.

You’ll need to register before you can vote, but it’s easy. All you need to provide is your name, age, email address, and a few personal details.

SPREAD THE WORD

Start spreading the word! It would be fantastic if we could win this prize in the same month as Dyslexia Awareness Week. Encourage your friends and family to vote - after all it’s for a good cause and will help improve the lives of the 70,000 dyslexic students in our  schools.
